Pouring fresh from a parallel universe where all the cool kids listen to metal and wheat beers are far more popular than hazies, Hefe Metal is our badass riff on a classic hefeweizen. Just like a hazy, wheat beers are smooth, refreshing, and share a totally Instagrammable cloudy appearance. The Brewers Guild of New Zealand voted this their #1 Hefeweizen for 2022, and we couldn’t agree more.

Just like a faithful heavy metal fanclub, wheat beers have a loyal audience who passionately love them and seek them out. And from time to time, the mainstream catches on. Metal is overdue a cultural comeback: we reckon hefeweizens are on a similar path. Get into it.
Tastier than an early Metallica riff, the hefeweizen is best known for its characteristic flavours of banana and cloves, which we reckon makes it the more delicious cousin to that Belgian witbier you always loved.

The literal translation of hefeweizen is ‘yeast wheat’, which gives a clue as to what will be turned up highest in the mix. Hefe Metal’s malt bill is all-German, and follows the traditional hefeweizen model with >50% wheat for a smooth, full body and a hazy-adjacent cloudiness. The yeast is the real star, providing characteristic banana and clove flavours, and the high carbonation helps with the classic fluffy white head. The hops are very much on backup vocals, although our little twist is swapping the noble hops for Kiwi stalwart Riwaka, which ups the fruitiness in the mix a touch.
